Health and Safety Advice.
Participating in hot yoga can offer numerous benefits, but it also comes with certain risks due to the high temperature and humidity involved. Please follow our health and safety advice and read our terms and conditions before taking part:
Pre-Class Preparation
Consult with a doctor.
Get medical clearance: Especially if you have any pre-existing health conditions such as cardiovascular issues, respiratory problems, or a history of heat-related illnesses, consult your doctor before starting hot yoga.
Hydrate well.
Pre-Hydration: Drink plenty of water before class to ensure you are well-hydrated. Electrolyte drinks can also help maintain balance.
Eat light.
Meal timing: Eat a light meal 2-3 hours before the class. Avoid heavy or greasy foods that can cause discomfort.
Dress appropriately.
Light, breathable clothing: Wear lightweight clothing that allow your skin to breathe and sweat to evaporate.
During Class
Listen to your body.
Self-Awareness: Pay attention to how you feel during the class. If you experience dizziness, nausea, or extreme fatigue, take a break and rest.
Stay hydrated.
Bring water: Bring a water bottle to class and take small sips throughout the session to stay hydrated.
Take breaks as needed.
Child’s pose: If you feel overwhelmed or overheated, take a break in a resting pose like Child’s Pose.
Pace yourself.
Modify postures: Don’t push yourself too hard. Modify poses as needed and follow your own pace, especially if you’re new to hot yoga.
Focus on Breathing
Breath Control: Practice deep and controlled breathing to help regulate your body temperature and maintain calmness.
Post-Class Recovery
Rehydrate
Post-Hydration: Drink plenty of water after class. Consider drinks with electrolytes to replenish lost minerals.
Cool Down Gradually
Avoid Sudden Temperature Changes: Allow your body to cool down gradually. Avoid immediately stepping into a cold environment.
Eat a Balanced Meal
Nutrient Replenishment: Have a nutritious meal with a good balance of protein, carbohydrates, and healthy fats to aid recovery.
Shower and Change
Hygiene: Shower and change into clean, dry clothes to remove sweat and avoid bacterial growth.
General Health Tips
Know your limits.
Personal limits: Be aware of your physical limits and don’t compare yourself to others in the class. Yoga is a personal practice.
Regular practice.
Consistency: Regular practice can help your body adapt to the heat over time. Start with shorter sessions and gradually increase duration.
Monitor health changes.
Track health: Keep an eye on how your body responds over time. If you notice any adverse effects, reconsider your practice routine.
Inform the Instructor
Health conditions: Inform your instructor of any health conditions or concerns you have before the class starts. They can provide modifications or keep an eye on you.
Precautions
Avoid if pregnant.
Pregnancy: Hot yoga is generally not recommended for pregnant women due to the risk of overheating.
Heat sensitivity.
Heat Tolerance: If you have a low tolerance to heat or have had issues with heat-related illnesses in the past, hot yoga may not be suitable for you.
Medical conditions.
Specific conditions: People with heart disease, high blood pressure, or respiratory conditions should be particularly cautious and seek medical advice before participating.
